Skin disorders results due to variety of etiological factors (food, lifestyle, exposer to different allergens)That can derange the three doshas of the body. The vitiated tridoshas settles in the skin and vitiates the other tissues and disfigure the skin. when it is known as 'Kushta'. 7 types of Maha Kushta(severe) and 11 types of Kshudra Kushta (less severe) have been identified.
Management of skin disease is through correction of the vitiated doshas and disassociation from the triggering factors and topical applications of medicines to reduce the disfigurement and discoloration of the skin. The doshas are brought into equilibrium through specialized panchakarma procedures or through certain internal medications.
The main principle in understanding a skin condition is through deducing it into dosha theory. Skin lesions that are manifested by dryness, roughness, scaling of skin are regarded as a vitiation of vata dosha.
Inflammatory lesions, boils, pustules, etc. are considered due to pitta and
Leisions with thick exudation or swelling or nodule are considered to be of excessasive kapha dosha
Skin lesions with pain are considered to be because of vata and burning sensation is due to pitta and leision with excessive itching are regarded as a vitiation of kapha.
The etiology of the disease, the association of dosha and the involvement of the tissues (dhatus) and the type of association has to be understood for a proper treatment. Certain therapies that break the association of doshas and dhatus and abstaining from the triggering factors are important while managing skin disorders.
